Bump work … be a part of the team!
So frustrated. But glad my best buddy just successfully talked me out of sending an email I just spent the last hour trying to perfect.
Apparently, work is more than… well… work! See what I’m learning is, it’s not enough to do your job and do it extremely well. Nope. You also need to be a social butterfly. A nice ‘hello’ in the morning (even when they are staring at you blankly) is not enough. And despite the fact that you have absolutely nothing in common with most; hate forced conversation; detest gossip; get weird looks because you wear a head wrap (tastefully done of course), you should STILL subject yourself to it in the name of the *team* atmosphere.
And while I am no prude, and yes, a potty mouth word will escape my lips from time to time, I really could go my entire day without hearing ‘f&ck’ a few hundred times and for no apparent reason. Just because you have your own office, I should be more understanding of the fact that you are more comfortable standing outside of it and adjacent to my desk to give someone directives, not two… not three, but six times.
Also. Despite the fact that I’ve told you XX times that I have an obligation every XX night of every week, I should promptly change those existing plans so that I can go have drinks (I don’t drink) and socialize (I hate small talk) with people who simply want to get to know me (or rather know my flippin’ business to most likely use against me at a later date should it suit them). What am I thinking?!
So I surrender. Next time someone from said team approaches me with gossip about you, rather than ignore them and refocus my attention on getting a huge graphic down to a 20kb banner ad w/o losing a bit of clairity (and did I ‘mention I need it in 10 minutes, sorry’); I will instead not only entertain the gossip, but will, from time to time, add in a stank lil response in agreement just so the *team* can feel comfortable and know that I am a real team player and great addition!
